Water

Each area of the North Okanagan has its own water system, and questions on the system should be directed to the water departments of the various municipalities in the region. Some areas charge a flat rate for water and sewer on a monthly basis based on the type of business involved. Other areas charge a minimal flat rate and base the balance on the consumption rate of the user. A number of areas have installed water meters on commercial/residential dwellings in an effort to reduce water consumption, both for environmental reasons, and to prolong the life of the current infrastructure. The utility billing system for both water and sewer is based on water flow through the meter. As the billings are based on consumption, these numbers will vary from one establishment to another. All metered commercial lines are subject to a minimum charge based on the size of the connection.

In 2003, the City of Vernon, District of Coldstream and the North Okanagan Water Authority pooled resources to become Greater Vernon Water.  Greater Vernon Water operates under the Greater Vernon Services Commission and overseas the supply and distribution of water to both domestic and irrigation customers in the designated service area.
